One of BLI’s design partners, Alexander Green, has created a digital sculpture called “sugar cubes” bringing the analog and digital worlds together. Alex worked with collaborators, Dan Kaminsky and Mark Slee, to produce custom software and hardware that combines technology with fine art.

The structure is modeled in 3D so that each LED acts as a pixel within a 3D dimensional canvas. The project combines cutting-edge technology with fine art to create new modes of expression within an immersive experience.

Sugar Cubes a new visual technology

The software that drives the installation responds directly to sound as well as Midi, and is controlled algorithmically or via a live VJ. The cubes are modular and can be reconfigured for a wide variety of shapes and forms depending on the installation and desired aesthetic.

Onstage behind live DJs and musicians

The Sugar Cubes make for a stunning stage or abstract permanent / temporary installation. Installations can be customized and reconfigured into different sizes and manufactured to suit individual needs, with a choice of a variety of different metals and plastics.

It allows for endlessly unique, improvised performances as the music triggers wonder-inducing patterns of light and motion.
