This has been a doozy of a week for announcements… Apple finally figured out Spotify, Jon Snow knows even less now, and there is a little conference in LA that people seem to be talking about… E3. This year E3 is turning out to be the biggest tease for fanboys since, well since Sunday. The number of crazy announcements have kept the media buzzing and we are eagerly awaiting soooo many releases, and the conference is still in full swing. Here are Britelite’s top 4 to date…

1. The increasingly inaccurately titled Final Fantasy 7 remake

Wow, just wow. I was talking to our fearless leader John yesterday and we were both saying that if someone would remake FF7 they were welcome to our money, and here they are. This was pretty much the game that made me realize what games could be, and having it remade is just the icing on the cake. I actually replayed the PS1 version a couple years ago and it stands up great, the remake is sure to crush some fools.

The demo that was showed at E3 only gave us a look at some familiar locations and a first look at Barret and Cloud. Oh Cloud. The visuals are stunning and the potential for this title is so exciting. We will be sure to share the gameplay trailer when it is released.

2. Seeing the world through rose colored Hololens

So far there has been a lot of excitement and conjecture about the Microsoft Hololens and the ‘Soft has done it’s part this week to add fuel to the fire. Last month’s Hololens demo in San Francisco showed how we might be using this technology in our home, this week we got to see how to game with it.

Microsoft pulled up the visual powerhouse that is Minecraft to show us what the future might look like. Players will be able to get a 3D fully interactive world at their fingertips, allowing users to dive into the games like never before. Watching the player pick up and move Minecraft blocks like they were in RL made me think that we have finally found the perfect interface to play Command and Conquer: Red Alert. I will let you know how that goes.

There is a lot of info yet to be made public about this new interface so we will have to stay tuned to see what the real world applications of this will be.

3. Fallout is 4 realz

This is the week where everyone tells me that my favorite games of all time are all coming back, and you couldn't have that list without a new Fallout title. Well Bethesda has given us all the holy grail we have been searching for in Fallout 4: Electric Boogalo.(I may have added that last part)

The dynamics in this games are out of control; there is so much new stuff I am not sure whether to be excited or the most excited. First you get to play before the titular fallout occurs, so we can finally explore Sugar Bombs in their natural habitat. Second, you get to have NPC’s call you by your chosen name, so get ready for “Greetings E40” when I walk into the room. Bethesda also added a Minecraft like ability to change every aspect of the environment and build your own structures, weapons, armor, and probably creepy robots.

4. Star Wars Battlefront… that’s all

Battlefront is BACK!!!! I will literally never get tired of defending/attacking the ice planet Hoth. I have played that scenario so many times since Super Empire Strikes Back on SNES, and it is still the best level you can put into a video game. EA seems to know this and has resurrected Battlefield… I mean BattleFRONT! It’s time to gas up the X-wing and get ready to attack a Star Destroyer.

It is hard to tell what the actual game will play like, but it looks like AMAZING is the answer. The trailer gave us a taste of some of the weapons and vehicles that we will be able to use in this installment and if it is not clear, I am excited.

Battlefront is one of the first games to feature the Frostbite 3 engine and so far it looks like it is an absolutely visually stunning tool to build games with. The living world aspect of the engine makes every aspect of the world move with its own physics. Each snowy hilltop on Hoth has its own little thing going on, and Darth Vader’s cape officially has a mind of its own.

Well I’m all excited out for now. I am keeping the E3 live feed handy and will let you know what the official best of wrap up is at the end of the week. So many games...
